Project Overview

T&M performed an assessment of the structural condition of Buildings 3, 5, 5A, 5B, 5 Annex, 19, 20, 81A, 7, 7A, 7B, 25, 25A, 127 & 132 at LaGuardia Airport and submitted a cyclical Condition Survey Report to the Port Authority of NY & NJ.

At the onset of the project T&M reviewed all available and relevant drawings, performed a preliminary walk-through of the buildings to be inspected, and developed tablet-based field forms for the inspection. The inspection effort was conducted by a two-person team and led by a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. The scope of work included a 100% visual inspection of all unobstructed structural and architectural elements and a 10% hands-on inspection of all structural elements. The project was performed in accordance with the requirements of the Port Authority Quality Assurance Division (QAD) Guidelines for Condition Survey of Buildings.

This project included the inspection of single-story and multistory buildings consisting of steel-framed and reinforced concrete structures, as well as long-spanning steel trusses in the hangar areas. The buildings ranged from less than 100 square feet to over 150,000 square feet. During the inspection, T&M identified structural deficiencies and non-structural deficiencies (which would pose a potential safety hazard). Following the inspection, the deficiencies were categorized and given a repair recommendation to outline the general extent of the required rehabilitation work. The categorized deficiencies were included in table format in the Condition Survey Report and were accompanied by CAD developed drawings identifying the locations of all the included deficiencies.

As a means of performing the inspection, T&M engineers used various pieces of equipment including ladders, binoculars, hammers, and digital calipers to inspect, measure, and quantify the deficiencies to the building components. Additionally, T&M utilized aerial man-lift equipment as required to obtain a hands-on inspection of specific deficiencies noted during the ground level visual inspections.
