Project Overview

Little Egg Harbor Township and the Borough of Tuckerton, in conjunction with local partners, were the recipient of a Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The purpose of the project is to restore and replenish local marsh, wetlands and beaches through the dredging of lagoon communities to remove silt build up that is blocking storm water drains and impeding the passage of wildlife and boats. The marsh restoration will directly benefit the local community by strengthening natural buffers against storm surges and sea level rise, which will help protect critical infrastructure in the areas of Osborn Island and Tuckerton Beach. The planned resiliency measures included in this project are: Living Shoreline Treatments, Tidal Marsh Replacement and Restoration, and Beach Replenishment and Nourishment.
Key project deliverables included a Resiliency Measures Feasibility Study and Preliminary Survey, which involved meetings with local partners, NJ Natural Lands Trust and NJ F&W, to help identify the project areas, environmental constraints, permit requirements, native plantings, estimates, etc. Based on this information, hydrographic survey, sediment sampling, and geotechnical investigations were completed within the project area. Initial project design and permitting with the NJDEP and Army Corps was completed thereafter.
T&M completed the final design, assisted with the bidding of the project and performed engineering oversight during construction. All work associated with the project, including, construction was completed within two years.
