US EPA Proposes to Strengthen Air Quality Standards

Recently, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a proposal to strengthen a key national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS) for fine particle pollution, also known as PM2.5, to better protect communities, including those most overburdened by pollution. The effect of this change is that some areas of the country will no longer be meeting the national ambient air quality standards for PM2.5, and will have to go through a more detailed air permitting process to proceed with projects that may increase emissions of PM2.5.
