Storm Water Solutions: Weathering the Infrastructure Storm

The Manavon Elementary School – Phoenixville Area Early Learning Center used to be a golf course before it was constructed with robust yet straightforward controls in 2017. Due to the school’s investments in stormwater resilience efforts, the facility escaped harm in the summer of 2021 when Hurricane Ida dropped 10 inches of stormwater at the site in seven hours, constituting a greater than 1 in 1,000-year storm, far exceeding the required 100-year storm design.

Storms can cause significant damage to public infrastructure, push electrical grids past their limits, and test building and construction codes to their breaking points.
