About Michael Thomas, PE, LEED-AP, PMP
As far back as he can remember, Michael Thomas loved building, fixing things and solving problems. His future as an engineer was apparent from the start. Since beginning his career in 2003, Michael’s versatility, communication skills and commitment to client satisfaction have been among the hallmark traits that have helped him stand out in his field. Now age 35, Michael channels his instilled passion by helping to develop the next generation of STEM superstars through active participation in Project Lead the Way. With thirteen years of engineering experience, he also applies his acumen at T&M Associates, a full-service consulting, environmental, engineering and construction management company, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
After joining T&M in 2012, Michael secured his MS in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2013. He is now a Group Manager in their Site Development Group. At T&M, Michael has headed several key projects with regional significance like West Windsor’s Carnegie Center Office Park, which T&M President & CEO Gary Dahms began working on in the 1990s. When NRG wanted to design and build a new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters that showcased their latest sustainable building solutions, T&M was called in by Boston Properties, the project’s developer, to assist with a myriad of responsibilities, including site development, client communication and construction management. Michael would successfully serve as T&M’s project manager.
Importantly, Michael is also the first professional in New Jersey to obtain the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® AP in Neighborhood Development certification. Michael is currently one of just 10 New Jersey professionals with this prestigious certification, which advances the vision of sustainable communities.
Michael’s success, passion, broad range of competencies, desire for continuous learning and willingness to help the next generation of engineers make him an excellent awardee for ENR-New York’s “20 Under 40”.
