Jersey City Wins Outstanding Plan Award for Circulation Element
Middletown, N.J. – The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association has honored Jersey City with The Outstanding Plan Award for the Circulation Element of the Jersey City Master Plan. The City of Jersey City was presented the Outstanding Plan Award at the Association’s Award Dinner on November 5, where the project team gave a presentation about the project.
T&M Associates was selected by Jersey City as the lead consultant to develop the Circulation Element of the Jersey City Master Plan. The plan was designed collaboratively by T&M, Jersey City staff and an interdisciplinary consultant team with input from an advisory committee and the community.
“We congratulate Jersey City for being honored by the American Planning Association and are proud to have provided assistance on the project,” said Kevin Toolan, CEO of T&M Associates. “The circulation element is an example of the cooperation between public and private entities to develop a plan that will greatly benefit the Jersey City community.”
The Planning Board of the City of Jersey City unanimously adopted a new Circulation Element of the Jersey City Master Plan at a public hearing on Tuesday, April 14, 2009.
The Circulation Element is an action-oriented, multi-modal transportation plan that addresses the present and future mobility needs of people and goods to, from and within Jersey City. It creates a linkage between transportation and land use planning. It guides the formulation of policy and investment in the City’s multi-modal local and regional transportation network, including light rail, PATH, bus, ferry, jitney, bicycle facilities, sidewalks and roadways, in order to meet current needs and to support anticipated future development and redevelopment to 2050.
Implementation of the recommendations of the circulation element will result in a city that is greener and more competitive by enhancing public transportation, providing a safe and comfortable environment for bicyclists and pedestrians, and minimizing roadway congestion.
