T&M, in cooperation with Sun Power Corporation Systems and Dome Technical Group, a UTC power company, prepared a major site plan for the installation of a 1.56 mW rated ground-mounted tracking system, covering approximately 7.5 acres of photovoltaic array on a 10.75 acre parcel. Containing more than 1,600 panels, this is currently the largest ground-mounted tracking solar array in New Jersey. The system’s panels slowly tilt to make the most of the available sunlight throughout the day. The area in which the panels were installed, was once the spoils area left from the construction of Merck’s buildings so no additional land needed to be purchased.
This system was officially up and running in early 2009 and provides approximately 10% of the facility’s electric power demands. It is tied in directly to Merck’s plant and primarily services the company’s data center.
T&M’s services included Land Survey, Site/Civil Plan Development, Municipal and State Permitting, along with Construction Layout and Foundation Design. The project’s site plan was approved by the local Planning Board after only one presentation by T&M and holds the distinction of being the only project deemed administratively complete on the first submittal.
